Atlantis, The Palm reacts to viral videos of an American baby drying clothing on the hotel’s rooftop.
An American woman drying clothes on the rooftop of an ultra- beautiful Dubai hotel has invited lots of “peak desi mom” comments, some criticism, and a response from the hotel itself.
Pallavi Venkatesh, a woman who hangs clothes hanging out on the rooftop of Dubai’s Atlantis, earlier this year, shared an Instagram photo of her. “Parents really momming at Palm Atlantis,” she wrote. The camera pans to reveal another ledge with clothes hanging out in the sunlight as the older Ms. Venkatesh properly hangs a pair of pants to clean on the shield rail.
Since being shared six days previously, the picture has racked up 11.1 million landscapes and over 900 responses.
“Moms are quite lovelies”, wrote one Instagram users. “You can take baby out of India but to get India out of baby is only impossible”, another quipped.
Some, however, criticized the work as “bad habits”. In Dubai, hanging clothes to dry on staircases is outlawed by government. The Dubai Municipality had asked people to refrain from hanging their laundry on their terraces or windows in order to preserve the city’s esthetic in 2021.
“It is illegal. You could get fined”, one people informed Venkatesh. “Doesn’t the hotel have laundry and drier facilities in- house?” another inquired. “Everyone in the UK does it,” says one. “It’s a healthy way to clean clothes. Stop hating y’all”, a third Instagram user commented.
The discussion attracted a five-star location called Atlantis, The Palm, which is known for its opulent features and top-notch services. The hotel praised the American woman for performing “mom tasks” while reminding her that guests can use the movable drying cable that is provided in every bath.
“Mother jobs”, the official guesthouse account commented with an applause icon. We’re glad you had a pleasant be. (We include a retractable drying cord in every bathroom, so that you can dry your clothing over the bath)” the hotel explained.
