Brit Buchanan stumbled upon her while in Lexington, Kentucky. What the 19-year-old fashion-lover found is a treasure that many brides and vintage clothing collectors alike can only dream of.

Buchanan, while in a long-term relationship, is not actually engaged, yet she still felt compelled to purchase the unique gown and document her unexpected buy on social media. The latter has led to a spot of viral fame and international interest in the pre-loved purchase. It’s safe to say that Buchanan, who is delighted with the gown, will be hanging the dress in a safe place until her own wedding day comes around.

“I grew up adoring vintage fashion, whether that be my grandmother’s 1970s costume jewelry, or my aunt’s 1980s wedding gown. So, finding that dress and it fitting like a glove truly was a dream come true,” Buchanan told Newsweek.

Although she is unsure of who made the dress or where it came from, the wedding gown closely resembles the dress styles of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

One viewer was prompted by the striking similarity to ask Buchanan whether the gown is an original Gunne Sax creation. This was a now-defunct U.S. label that thrived in the 1960s due to its recognizable prairie-themed cuts and patterns.

In the viral video, which has been since it was shared to on January 26, Buchanan says that the dress could have been homemade or at least altered at home. The self-titled “proud Kentuckian” filmed the hemlines and stitches in the gown’s bodice, and added that she purchased the dress for $59.99.

Buchanan told Newsweek that she couldn’t be happier with the find, and that she is keen to keep scouring her town’s selection of thrift stores for more. The teenager is keen to get married when the time is right, so will be holding on to the dress for a while to come.

“Even now that I’m all grown up, I still haven’t lost my love for vintage fashion,” Buchanan said.

“There’s such an incredible and alive retro scene in Lexington, and there are so many authentic shops with the cutest stuff. My favorites are Pop’s Resale and Street Scene. But, at the end of the day, Goodwill never lets me down for pieces from the past!”

What Do the Comments Say?

The dress has garnered plenty of attention since it was showed off online back in January. Some viewers have shared in the comments section of the post that they felt “skeptical” about how the dress would look, until they saw it on Buchanan.

“It’s absolutely beautiful on you,” one user wrote.

Another added: “I didn’t see the vision until you put it on. It’s so cute!”

“On the hanger I was really skeptical, but then you put it on and man talk about being proven wrong you look stunning,” a third user posted.
