Infinity Nikki’s great in May garnered an array of emotions. Fans of the well-known Nikki wireless style games were enthralled to see the pink-haired fashion designer make her triple A comeback. Untrained people either dismissed it as a dress-up activity or found themselves unapologetically drawn to its wonderful and original take on an open-world experience. That second station is me, I guess. I had a hard time understanding the game’s premise, but after playing a few hours of the beta version, I’ve changed from being completely enthralled to being really excited to wear the full experience.

The story follows the mythical Nikki and her fur best friend Momo getting ready for a party only to be unimpressed with Miraland’s magical world. Ena the Curator, a deity who resembles a god, informs Nikki that she has been chosen to locate and recover the Miracle Outfits, a collection of exquisite and potent dresses, in order to discover a holy truth. Along the way, Nikki even learns that she’s a Stylist. These are unique people with the ability to get and create garments anytime, anywhere.

I have three Ability Dresses, unique outfits that grant me a special power, before I start the game. One of the blue dress and blonde hair ensembles in the trailer for State of Play allows me to climb Princess Peach and do it in a floating fashion. Nikki can also use a plummeting bang to beat enemies or to break up fragile objects, making it useful for crossing significant gaps or bounding between buildings. In combat, Nikki uses a purification dress, which allows her to fire orbs of cleansing energy to purify (not kill) demonically corrupted foes known as Esselings and collectibles. One adorable clothing allows Nikki to groom particular animals so she can get their goods. Priorities like floating and cleansing are mapped to buttons, while specialty dresses like the cleaning or a later-unlocked bug-catching dress can be activated using a choice wheel.

Based on the experimental cut, Miraland is huge and welcoming, thanks to beautiful and lovely flower fields, rolling hills, and the lovely village of Florawish. Infinity Nikki has a closet that is as gorgeous as hers. There’s plenty to do and examine, whether it’s completing side quests or, the principal rope, hunting for Whimstars. These unique stars are everywhere, dotted with items and perks to add to the talent trees. Some can be found, while others can be helped by Momo’s unique vision, which can identify and label far Whimstars. However, some have a few minor difficulties. For instance, using an adornment atop an umbrella or a weapon to defeat an enemy can be used as an example. You can also obtain Whimstars by gaining access to special portals that transport players to simpler, but suggestive, but similar, shrines to those from The Legend of Zelda: Breathing of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom. Gathering Whimstars is a good way to experience the familiar pleasure of collecting actors in a 3D Mario activity.

The Heart of Infinity ability tree rewards new clothes and other products with whipstars earned. However, this only makes the dress available to get crafted – you still have to make it yourself. While exploring Miraland, you’ll obtain materials like several fruits, flowers, threads, furs, and more to create a desired ensemble, consisting of parts like hairstyles, upper and lower body wear, make- away, and accessories. By completing adventures and additional hobbies, clothes can be found or earned.

Your degree as a designer rises as more clothing sketches are discovered and made available. Earlier on, Nikki joins the Stylist Guild in Florawish. She is given a Pear-Pal, a tablet-like system that records a myriad of objectives, including completing a certain number of enemies, and taking pictures with an in-game camera. As you progress toward your goals, you earn money and resources to purchase more clothes. This may appeal to imperative- focused players, as there’s no shortage of meters to complete. Infinity Nikki continuously monitors and rewards all aspects of sing in a way akin to Genshin Impact’s, including the main story, area quests, Stylist Rank, and everyday challenges.

Checking a container typically results in the purchase of new clothing or clothing designs. The Nikki set “Bread and Butter” dresses up the lady in a myriad of outfits, which serves as a powerful hook. Irrespective of any abilities that come with the clothing pieces, you can dress Nikki however you like. You can do that if you want Nikki to stone that seem 24/7 and you really like the bug-catching clothing. With so many clothes options, participants will likely spend a lot of time making Nikki glance as adorable, regal, or quirky as they see fit.

A main story quest also adds some meaty plot tension, besides exploring the picturesque open world and collecting stars and materials. Cutscenes have strong comedic writing at times and are beautifully rendered. The perpetually saccharine vibe is enhanced by characters like a talking dragon-like poet or by watching a girl ride a massive origami paper plane level a building and crash into it.

Every turn, Infinity Nikki is full of charm. Even manipulating the world’s day/night cycle involves playing a cute Flappy Bird- esque minigame. Every corner has a smile on its face as you complete myriad goals, and winning new outfits can help you feel good. While Infinity Nikki’s cozy atmosphere is enjoyable, I was even more perplexed by its grander mystery-themed teases. Although I still have no idea what to make of this world and how it functions, I want to learn more. Numerous lorebooks and other notes offer ideas for unexpectedly complex world-building. Additionally, there is a multiplayer component in the game, but it isn’t yet available in the beta, so developer Infold Games isn’t ready to discuss it.

Most of all, having an open- world game that doesn’t feature overt violence is refreshing. I wouldn’t consider any obstacle I’ve encountered thus far to be challenging, but there’s an allure to just being in this world that’s hard to deny – everything is just so darn pleasant. I’ve got my outfit picked out, so hopefully, Infinity Nikki’s release won’t leave us waiting too much longer.

Infinity Nikki is coming to PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, and Android. Select registered players now have access to a closed PC public beta.
