Katie Holmes Announces a Reversed Dress Trend Is Actually Available

Touching along in Sardinia, Italy, to take her award at the 2024 Filming Italy Festival, was probably more focused on dressing to satisfy the evening’s conventional requirements than dressing to co- sign a trend. However, Holmes’s look managed to say what insiders have been thinking for a moment: Boho super dresses are more than up, and they’re season’s easiest clothing of the time.

The artist, working with lifelong stylist, appeared backstage in a thick gown with flowing sleeves and a liquid, bright skirt. A related buckle cinched at her neck was also present in her part. With a few more ruffles, the super outfit may belong in for the piney Folklore set: The beautiful shape and light chiffon are “august” or “betty” embodied.

Holmes paired her gown with a gold chain necklace and double-strap sandals covered in reptile materials to maintain her understated style. She kept her charm to a minimum and did her hair as per her name. The Dawson’s Creek legend also had one look at the end of the night, which was unusual for new observations at home in New York City.

My mind immediately immediately became drawn to Holmes’ woodland fairy aesthetic and hippie restoration ideas. The floor-grazing super image and white negative color resembled Chloé’s insider-approved show at Paris Fashion Week in March, where incoming artistic director Chemena Kamali dipped again into the house’s 1970s archives to present curled chiffon dresses, sloppy leather bags, and wedge sandals.

Bell-bottoms and tiny woven crop tops are back in the conversation as Laurel Canyon-coded clothing is appearing everywhere, regardless of whether more runways are coming out this fall. Daisy Jones and the Six’s fashion shows featured Laurel Canyon-coded clothing. On the street style front, models, editors, and influencers are styling crochet pieces on top of jeans or flowing (and not just at Coachella).

Many insiders believed Chloé’s most recent runway show to be a sign of the upcoming return of boho style.

Boho maxi dresses like Holmes’ are the epitome of relaxed warm-weather fashion and a call-back to a sepia-toned aesthetic. In fact, they may be summer’s easiest dress trend. With silhouettes that flow away from the body and light fabrics, they’re comfortable enough to wear on a hot afternoon. (Or, if you’re Holmes, under the stage lights at an international film festival.)

Holmes has always favored easy dresses, but this one is even more ethereal than her typical wardrobe. Back home in New York City, she’s lately tried poplin colorblock dresses (with an) and grunge’ 90s (with velvet Mary Janes). The through- line between each one is capital- C comfort—a quality anyone can appreciate, no matter what’s trending. Shop boho maxi dresses inspired by Katie, at every price point, ahead.
