Redwood High School students have doubled their share of complimentary prom gowns and other formal clothing and are expanding their offer to all Marin high school students following a successful work last year at a Corte Madera store.

“This time, we wanted to get the whole neighborhood involved, because last time it was just for Redwood”, said Charlotte Lacy, 16, a Redwood rookie and management group participant. “This time, we’ve opened it up to all of Marin County”.

Co- administrator Olivia Villanova, 18, a Redwood top and other part of the command class, said donations this year have totaled about 500 dresses, upwards from about 250 least year.

“We have clothes, shoes, ties, bags and a few matches”, Villanova said. She said that the majority of the clothes are brand-new, while some are sparingly used. She claimed that many of the new garments were closeouts or extras from various clothing manufacturers who wanted to support the job.

The graduation store runs March 23- 24 and March 29- 30 at a huge shop near Macy’s at The Village at Corte Madera, 1400 Redwood Highway. A Redwood- just demo will be held Thursday.

The store is open from 11 a. m. to 5 p. m. March 23, 24 and 30, and 4 to 8 p. m. on March 22 and 29.

The initiative offers students the opportunity to offer their peers, practice organizational skills, and help build stronger community bonds, according to Redwood teacher David Plescia.

“Prom can be a expense- expensive experience for some, and we want to make it accessible to all students”, Plescia said. It’s also a fantastic choice for individuals who want to modify clothes and make prom more responsible.

According to Villanova, about 50 command students have agreed to work in two-hour shifts to support the shop over the two weekends.

“They help greet individuals when they come in, they help test out citizens, they help people in the appropriate rooms, they put clothes back”, Villanova said. “There will be about five children per hours,” he says.

For Lacy, setting up the shop operation has been both entertaining and enjoyable.

“It can be difficult to obtain a prom dress because they are so expensive”, Lacy said. So it’s been really enjoyable to give clothes to more than 500 people.

Funds are accepted through March 21. Clothing products and equipment may be dropped off at a bin or in the business at Redwood High School, 395 Doherty Drive, Larkspur, or at the store business.

Another Marin great schools are also taking part.

Two staff members visited a group of girls at the Princess Project in San Francisco over the weekend, and they had an incredible moment getting their graduation outfits, according to Novato High School principal Liz Seabury in an email.

Over the past two days, Seabury reported that we have even operated our individual prom shop. “We had over 200 clothes, and now we are over to five”.

At San Marin High School in Novato, a scholar- led team, Recovered Closet, has taken on the prom dress selection and supply duties, said Jennifer Larson, San Marin primary.

The team has collected and recycled more gowns than ever, and it has raised awareness of the value of affordable and sustainable clothing, according to Larson. “Their following transfer, on March 22, will highlight new prom dresses from new clothes drives”.

According to parent organizer Stephanie Young of Mill Valley, Tamalpais High School held its pop-up prom shop this month in the school gym.

The Tam High Shop will provide dresses for students at San Rafael High School. An event is planned in April. According to Christina Perrino, a spokesperson for San Rafael City Schools, Terra Linda refers its students to the store at The Village.

The peer resource leadership students at Archie Williams High School in San Anselmo are holding a pop-up shop in the school library every day from April 15 through April 19 for one hour after school, according to Jennifer Brown, peer resource leadership adviser.

Donations of gently used formalwear will be accepted through April 12 at the school, 1327 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., room 317, or at Longway, 641 San Anselmo Ave.
