One young content creator and sports PR specialist from Chicago has sparked a popular debate after venting her surprise at the stunning lack of higher heels on today’s dance floors. It was once correct for women that nights out clubbing often involved stilettos and sore feet.
Rachel Parrish questioned whether Gen Z also embraced the custom of wearing feet to parties after a recent evening out at Drai’s After Hrs in Las Vegas in a video that quickly became popular.
” I do n’t know what’s happening to club culture, but the girlies are not wearing heels in the clubs anymore”, Parrish said in the video, which has been viewed 17 million times. Do we need to retire and instruct the women on how to utilize heels, or do you know what kind of heels to buy when leaving the club? Dance floor dancing in your feet is a big part of the fun of going to a club.
The film quickly became popular and sparked a flurry of reactions from viewers.
The video’s creator, Parrish, described it as” a movie that my friend and I went to while we were away in Las Vegas.” I rarely ever go to the team these days, and I noticed a change in her wardrobe,” she said. On the way home, I was having a funny conversation about how tight the dress code was when I was in my primary team time, and I made the decision to report. I thought it would only reach my friends”.
However, the video went far beyond her close circle, and commenters quickly made the point that “bring heel culture back to the clubs.”
“Gen Z here- We dress in heels for brunch, sneakers for the club,” said Diana Elizabeth.
While viewer Anne simply said: “No thanks, we prefer to be comfortable.”
Some even claimed that the footwear choice was related to safety, saying, “I don’t wear heels because it makes it more difficult to run away from dangerous men on my way home!” said Alice.
Millennials also jumped in. TikToker Kmk sided with the younger generation and wrote:” Please, the girls are smart. My knees and feet wish I could take back all the harm that wearing heels caused as a participant in the peak club culture.
Millennials and Gen Z have a lot of vehement disagreements about fashion, but they are not brand-new. Debates have raged on subjects, and the latest controversy to go viral is the one over heels argument.
There is a difference in how her generation views footwear, according to Kristie Chow, Gen Z founder of Hauteline.
“I believe that Gen Zs, for the most part, do not gravitate towards heels for the club as post-COVID, dress codes have changed, both in the office and on the weekends. Instead of conforming to what is expected or traditionally seen as “appropriate” garb for a location or activity, Gen Z dresses with self-expression and comfort in mind, she told Newsweek.
For Gen Z, wearing heels to a club could even be frowned upon, she added. It might seem more formal than formal in a comfortable flat or sneaker, according to the author.
The viral post sparked a lot of reactions and responses, including humorous videos of people wearing unusual footwear for a club and others berating Parrish’s video.
Parrish later clarified her position in a follow-up clip: “I was joking. I was genuinely joking. I have dry humor, but I’m starting to realize how poorly it conveys itself.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Parrish remains positive about the viral moment.
“I’m still taking it all in, but I’m so happy that people who watched the video decided to follow me because they adore my other content,” she said. I’ve worked in sports and entertainment marketing for 15 years, and I love to learn about women’s sports and brands, and, believe it or not, I love fashion!
