Some schools require “professional dress” or “intelligent business dress” from their staff members. The same applies to the one where a Reddit users worked.
In fact, it was so rigid that when the teacher injured his foot, they didn’t allow him to put on sneakers.

Education specialist Beth Lewis acknowledges that teachers are subject to scrutiny based on their looks, and that their looks can have a powerful impact.
“Professors work with officials, individuals, families, and other faculty on a daily basis and need to make sure to put their best foot forth for all of them”, she.
She thinks that their clothing choices should be based on pragmatism and comfort as well as professionalism.
Lewis advises educators to choose appropriate clothes for their time. Dressing for parents and children is not your job, but you should be aware that your appearance will likely affect your ability to be judged at least half. Think about how you would like to get perceived, and wear appropriate clothing. This also applies to beauty.
According to her, that may mean keeping up with the latest trends, sticking with the legends, or something in between, depending on the circumstances.
“When in question, go for an estimate of business everyday and avoid dark areas”, Lewis added. “If you’re not certain of a school rule, play it safe. Your clothing can be as fashionable and modern as you want it to be as long as you present yourself as the qualified professional that you are, don’t wear anything that your students aren’t allowed to do, and maintain authority.”
The education expert advises avoiding any footwear you wouldn’t feel comfortable in for 8 or more hours straight when it comes to feet. “Teachers spend most of their time standing, weaving between tables, and even squatting and kneeling. Your feet and arches won’t be kind to you for long periods of time thanks to high stiletto heels and toe-pinching slippers.”
“However, Lewis believes it’s likely a good idea to avoid wearing extremely casual tennis shoes and sandals on days like field trips or walk-a-thons. Other than that, any secure footwear that is practical and easy to walk in is completely fine,” she explained.
From 2022, it is clear that there is a complicated connection between what people wear and the opinions they inspire in the scientific world. Sport or casual clothes in these settings is associated with versatility and directness, whereas more classy and elegant clothes conveys qualities like care and attention to detail.
So it sounds like the biggest administrative concern shouldn’t be having to walk up and down the halls in an extra pair of sneakers.
