There are strict rules on wearing white to compete at and one player has decided to lean into the dress code by wearing a replica of her wedding dress to compete.

Marta Kostyuk, 22, turned heads this morning as she arrived to battle it out with Australia’s Daria Saville, wearing a copy of her wedding dress, which was also designed by sportswear brand Wilson.

Marta was snapped preparing to jump into an action-filled match by unbuttoning her sheer white overlay, to reveal a tennis dress designed by her sponsor.

The sleeveless, deep V-neck, open-backed frock is a near replica of her wedding dress, featuring the same elegance and grace but adapted for athletic performance.

Her dress for Wimbledon takes inspiration from the wedding dress she wore when she tied the knot last November

Marta married George Kyzymenko in Cyprus last November, and her Wimbledon dress serves as a touching homage to the joyous occasion.

Speaking to this month, she said: ‘The idea and the story behind this dress is, I think, by far one of the best in tennis. I don’t know if ever but for sure, right now.’

The 22-year-old tennis player wore her brunette tresses and blonde highlights back in a slick low bun, with extra bobby pins to keep it in play during the game.

She teamed her look with simple, yet elegant, pearl stud earrings and her silver Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra bracelet.

Marta has known her husband since she was four years old and it appears tennis has always been an important pillar in their relationship.

She told the outlet: ‘We were practising at the same tennis club in Kyiv when we were kids, but eventually he went to the US to study, and I started playing professionally.’

‘We weren’t really in contact, but when I went back to Ukraine in 2022 he called me for a date, and, yeah- that was it.’

Around five months later, George lured her out to watch the sunrise one morning in a spot in Kiev that looks out over the whole city.

Marta said it was strange that he wanted to wake up early as he ‘likes to sleep in’ but she agreed.

She was recording the picturesque sights on her phone when she turned around and saw George on one knee, asking her to marry him.

The idea for using her wedding dress as inspiration for her tennis attire came about when some of her friends and staff from Wilson were chatting about it.

Marta said: ‘We were like, “Why not be the first brand in tennis to make a wedding dress?”

Her frock for the big day featured a similar sleeveless deep V-neck design, with the same button-up mesh overlay embroidered with flowers.

It comes after Kostyuk, in which she was celebrated in the magazine as the new star of Ukrainian tennis and a growing influence in the sport.

Vogue Ukraine said the edition celebrates ‘legendary athletes and new stars of national sports’.

The tennis star is pictured topless in the shoot, wearing just white Nylon Intertop skirt-shorts in a photo published in the issue.
