Liz Sunshine, a fashion photographer, spends more time considering how we clothing than the average person.

Based in Naarm/Melbourne, the 37- yr- ancient has photographed Asian fashions at events and road design for more than a decade.

But her shopping advice is simple: “Slow down”.

“I lived my 20s in the decade of rapid — fast fashion, rapid changes, social media and online shopping — and I now think we are all starting to understand the repercussions”, she says.

The artist, documentary fashion and portrait photographer says, “dressing well doesn’t mean buying new clothes”.

Knowing who you want to be in the universe and how your clothes make you feel is what she says.

More than 200, 000 kilograms of clothes are sent to American landfills each year, according to the American Fashion Council, and the authorities is considering regulating the sector to increase its disposal practices.

“Then I buy less than ever before.”

Ms. Sunshine claims that she believes in “the power of clothing to shift how we see ourselves and our systems” and in the power of clothing to symbolize a man and make us feel connected to one another.

She claims that “the social and environmental factors of clothing have devastated me as well.”

Ms. Sunshine believes that “buying less clothes may be the key to developing a unique design, having a better relationship with clothing, and dressing in a more personally fulfilling way.”

She realized that her own relationship with clothing wasn’t ideal at the beginning of 2022.

“I had a continuous influx of new clothes rotating in and out of my wardrobe,” I said. “My thoughts and feelings around getting dressed were frequently bad.

Ms Sunshine began tracking her attitude, taking buying cuts and journaling everyday. Finally, a year later, challenged herself to get just 26 items in 12 weeks, halving her purchases from the past month.

“Then I buy less than ever before, get better parts, am starting to wear vintage/pre- loved, and am learning new skills like embroidery”, Ms Sunshine says.

Change takes day, according to the saying.

This time, Ms Sunshine says she’s “learning how to buy prior- loved”.

She says buying online is her chosen choice, favoring Vestiaire, auction, Etsy, Facebook industry and classic store accounts on Instagram.

She adds her clothes to a wardrobe app and uses Pinterest to prepare annual wardrobes.

She says she does find gaps in her closet with a more measured approach and look especially for that item.

Ms. Sunshine describes the pressure and guilt associated with no dressing sustainably and hopes to be an indication of progressive shift.

I’m heading in the right direction as long as I spend less money than I did last year and consider the value of those items when choosing to purchase them.
