Hilary Filipowicz, 38, who lives in Cleveland,, is a keep- at- home- mother of two girls aged three and one.
Hilary gasped at the top of her two-minute picture about the odd experience, “So I just got clothing coded at our local library at child story time.”
She then showed off her dress, which included short, grey cardigans in the teenagers’ part of Target and high-waisted “mom-jeans” style trousers from Topshop.
Hilary admitted to being “probably certainly age appropriate but whatever” when she explained the crop-top type sweater and how to explain her outfit choices.
She added that the Topshop clothes were perhaps ‘1, 000 years aged.’
‘And I thought, wearing a shirt is a move away from my usual sweater, T- clothing, leggings, jeans situation,’ said Hilary.
‘So I was feeling great about myself. She ruined that,’ Hilary continued of the discussion.
The mother- of- two finally recalled she was’ chasing my kids about,’ who were’ acting crazy’ during story time.
‘I always get a little stressed out that there, they don’t sit during story time,’ Hilary admitted.
‘But after account occasion, this teacher comes up to me and she goes, “Are you mother or caregiver”? And I thought, “Oh my gosh, she thinks I’m young.”
‘So I go, “Oh I’m mother, not the parent”. ‘
Hilary continued:’ So she goes, “You should know better”, in this assess- y, sigh sigh sort of voice.
“And so I immediately began apologizing for my kid’s behaviour, and I’m of, I’m so sad. It’s truly difficult for them to lay still. We’re working on it. That’s kind of why we come below”, she recalled of her first impulse to regret for her daughters being destructive.
‘ And she goes, “No, your outfit”,’ Hilary recalled in surprise.
‘ I’m thinking, “Oh my gosh… Did did I never switch my shirt up? What’s happening”? ‘
Hilary finally explained the lady motioned to her stomach, pointing out that, as she carried her one- year- older, her sweater had ridden up, exposing even an’ inch of skin.’
‘ Apparently that’s inappropriate, to show and midriff while you’re like edging into 40,’ Hilary snarked.
‘ And news flash, I guess I disagree,’ she concluded in the video.
Speaking to, Hilary said: ‘Postpartum is a weird time. You never know what to wear, what fits … My closet contains three different sizes of clothes. Getting dressed is a fraught situation.’
Still, as she added to the magazine, she bears no ill will toward the library.
We go to the library several times per week because I am such a lover of it. My preschooler is obsessed with books and, as a mom, it’s hard to find free activities.
But the odd exchange hung with her nonetheless.
It’s strange to be criticized like a teenager at the age of 38, especially given that I’m totally in my mother’s shoes. I’d never attempt to make anyone uncomfortable.
My toddler is 30 pounds. I’m carrying her around, and I don’t care how my clothes are moving or how my body looks at those times.
Thousands of the post’s one million viewers took to the comments, with most agreeing that there was nothing wrong with Hilary’s outfit.
‘I’ve been a librarian for 13 years and this is WILD. Come as you are, our unwritten rule! one wrote.
‘Your outfit is adorable. I’m so over the mom shaming,’ a second echoed.
‘Librarian here! Women literally breastfeed at my storytimes … Wear whatever you’re comfortable in- I’m just glad you showed up. P. S. I wear cropped shirts to work all the time lol.’
Yet another library worker chimed in: ‘That is insane. This irritates me as someone who works in a public library. So uncalled for and absolutely unnecessary. Your outfit is super cute!! ‘
