She continued, “Both their careers stand out for the impact they have had on other artists and the quality and wide appeal of their song.” More than 50 years back, they were able to capture hearts and people around the world with their lovely tunes and rock anthems.

We’re proud to give Elton and Bernie the Gershwin Prize for their profound contribution to years of music fans.

Elton and Taupin met again in 1967 and have gone on to make many hits like Rocket Man, Daniel, Candle In The Wind and I’m Still Standing.

‘I’ve been writing melodies with Bernie for 56 times, and we never thought that that one time this might be bestowed upon us,’ Elton, 76, told.’ It’s a tremendous respect for two English men to be recognized in this way. I’m but honored.’

Taupin, 73, called the recognition ‘humbling’ and something he is ‘completely thrilled to acknowledge.’

On Tuesday evening, Taupin addressed the crowd at the prestigious meal without Elton.
