A Byron Bay influencer and fashion designer has accused Kylie Jenner of stealing designs from her clothing line for her new fashion company Khy.
Jessica Johansen-Bell, who starred in the Netflix series Byron Baes in 2022, claimed the American socialite, 26, ‘ripped off’ designs she released four years ago.
The 28-year-old, who founded the brand Johansen when she was 19, made the accusations in a TikTok video on Friday, which Kylie’s team have since denied.
Jessica filmed the video wearing one of the twist sleeve white frocks she designed in 2020 and now claims was copied by Kylie.
She began the clip by saying: ‘Guys, am I tripping, or did Kylie Jenner just rip off my entire collection? I have been dwelling on this for days.’
Jessica continued: ‘We launched a collection so similar to the collection she launched, but we launched ours three or four years ago.’
‘It’s been our signature range ever since.’
The Lismore-born reality star went on to say she’s ‘been getting so many DMs from customers, friends and family’ asking if she had collaborated with Kylie.
‘We’ve dressed Kylie before, so I thought it was old stuff,’ Jessica explained, but added she was ‘shocked’ when she looked further into Kylie’s designs.
Jessica went on to include a slide show of photos comparing her dresses to the dresses Kylie released in her fourth drop last week.
The main similarity between the garments appears to be the twisted sleeves featured on most items, which creates a similar silhouette.
Daily Mail Australia does not claim Kylie or the Khy brand have stolen or copied designs from Jessica.
Jessica went on to tell her followers she reached out to the Khy support team who responded in an email, viewed by a Daily Mail reporter, and said her claims are false.
Speaking with Daily Mail, Jessica said she had previously worked with Kylie in 2018 when The Kardashians star wore one of her designs while promoting her lip kit.
She explained she went public with her concerns over similarities in the designs ‘because this is my signature range that I have been selling for three years’.
‘She is not only confusing my customer base, but monetising my concept and selling it for $52-98 and my dresses are $329,’ she said.
‘She has the means to order hundreds of thousands of units and keep prices so low and I simply can’t compete with that.’
Daily Mail has reached out to Kylie for comment, and while she has chosen not to release an official statement on the matter, she does deny the claims.
Jessica’s video on the alleged incident has since gone viral, with many viewers left divided over her claims.
Some were in support of the fashion designer, with one person writing: ‘Yes, I have one of your dresses and immediately thought about your brand when I saw the ad.’
Another commented: ‘I own the poppy dress and thought the same thing.’
A third added: ‘As soon as I saw her “designs” I immediately thought of your brand.’
‘I legit thought it was Johansen when I first saw it,’ yet another said.
However, others came to Kylie’s defence, saying the entrepreneur’s clothing line isn’t the only fashion brand to release items which featured twisted sleeves.
‘Zara has very similar clothing and they’ve had it out last year as well,’ one person said.
Another wrote: ‘I think you’ll find these styles are everywhere at the moment. Kim [Kardashian] has been wearing these rope straps for ages too.’
‘I mean Supre also launched the same style so always going to find similar?’ someone else added.
Yet another commented: ‘Maybe inspired by yours, but they’re different to me.’
